If you didn’t already know, here’s a quick run down of everything known about the Goosebumps movie shrieking into theaters October 2015!
This film is slated as a comedy horror fantasy directed by Rob Letterman (Gulliver’s Travels) and written by Mike White (School of Rock) and Darren Lemke. The Columbia Pictures movie has Jack Black taking on the role of the author of childish frights himself, R. L. Stine, partnering with his daughter and her new friend Zach, who’s just moved to their small town, as they attempt to trap the recently freed spooks and creatures back into Stine’s books.
A Goosebumps film was first proposed in 1998 with Tim Burton at the helm to produce it, but the film never made the cut. Ten years later Columbia Pictures acquired the rights and the writers felt that the film would be best done by combining a variety of short stories all into one universe. The initial script was something of a fake biographical film where R.L. Stine writes a book and the monsters become real, but by 2012 Stine had started expressing pessimism that the film would ever be made. In 2013 Jack Black was confirmed for the role and met with Stine for consent to play the role. The release date has been shifted around between late 2015 and early 2016, but the final release date has been confirmed for October 16, 2015.
R. L. Stine and Slappy the Dummy will both make an appearance in the film.
